“Who Do You Trust?” Public Attitudes towards Nanotechnology, Government, and Industry

This research project uses experimental issue groups (EIGs) to explore public knowledge of nanotechnology. Groups were run in Spokane WA, Dallas TX, and Cleveland OH, involving over 150 people. Beyond gathering information on public perceptions of the risks and benefits of nanotechnologies, the research also examines:

  • The level of public understanding of the regulatory agencies, their roles, and responsibilities vis-à-vis nanotechnology.
  • The level of trust, or lack of trust, in the agencies and the sources of any mistrust.

Actions those agencies, or the government in general, could take to enhance public trust in their ability to manage the potential risks associated with nanotechnology.
